We are Don and Brad Rose. We've been building and flying different brands of ultralights since 1980. We sold 526 and trained over 100 to safely fly with zero damage or injury. When our friends and veteran flyers Gary Stephens, Chief Test Pilot, and David Ables, Production Manager, wanted to build one from scratch, we decided to build 10 more and now have a factory set up for unlimited production. Brad will be our Chief Instructor with over 1000 hours and 45 years of experience including 3 cross country trips to Sebring Florida. We have waited for 40 years for someone to put a Weedhopper type ultralight back into production. With over 13,000 sold worldwide, we knew it was a tried and proven design with the best safety record out there. We wanted to sit in the cool shade under the wing, not on the nose in case we hit something. We wanted the engine in front so the pilot could sit on the center of gravity in a roll cage whether he weighed 100 or 300 pounds so the aircraft would always be in balance and never worry about anything going through the prop. We wanted a big swept wing with dihedral that would always stall straight ahead at a slow stall speed. We wanted it to be able to land safely with no power and not worry about engine failures. We wanted strut braced wings rated for +8 -2G's, not cables. We wanted a low center of gravity with no gear legs to bounce or break on a hard landing. We wanted simple controls with no push pull cables anywhere and a one inch push rod to the elevator. We didn't want the complexity of ailerons that are ineffective at slow speeds and difficult to connect and reconnect at wing assembly and removal. We wanted to be able to remove the wing for transport in 30 minutes with one person. We wanted a kit anyone could assemble in 8 hours. We wanted it to be Part 103 legal so no license would be required. We wanted to provide a 2 hour instructional video and 2 place training for every pilot. We built the TreeHopper.
